About GERDHI

Citizen voices.Evidence for change.

The Gender Research and Data Hub connects citizen-generated data, research and lived experiences to support inclusive policymaking, responsive development and accountable governance.

Who we are

A shared home for citizen-generated evidence.

The Gender Research and Data Hub (GERDHI) is an integrated citizen data, evidence and knowledge hub developed by the Advisory Gender DataHub Initiative (AGDHI), an independent not-for-profit organisation based in Uganda, in collaboration with the Civil Society for Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG), with support from UN Women.

The platform was established to advance the recognition, visibility and use of diverse citizen-generated data and evidence—bringing valuable knowledge from citizens and non-state actors into conversations about development.

Why citizen evidence matters

Amplifying citizen voices for policy and action.

GERDHI connects evidence generated by civil society organisations implementing Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) initiatives and by the private sector. It brings together information from qualitative and quantitative approaches to reflect people’s lived realities.

Citizen-generated evidence helps inform inclusive decision-making, responsive development, planning, budgeting, accountability and good governance.

Evidence in practice

Initiatives that demonstrate the value of citizen data.

Citizen-generated data can surface perspectives that are vital to public investment, service delivery and accountability. The following initiatives illustrate the areas in which that evidence is used.

Inclusive education · SDG 4

SPAIE

School Public Accountability and Investment in Education

The SPAIE study on inclusive education highlights the potential of non-state actors to produce citizen-generated evidence relevant to education and public accountability.

Gender equality · Protection

BRIDGE-U

Building Responsive and Inclusive Data for Gender Equality in Uganda

BRIDGE-U focuses on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Violence Against Children (VAC), demonstrating the relevance of citizen-generated evidence in these areas.

These initiatives underpin the value of citizen-generated data for planning, budgeting and accountability. The operationalisation of the Gender Research Data Hub (GERDH) further supports a structured repository for such evidence.

Why the hub exists

From fragmented information to shared knowledge.

GERDHI seeks to address the fragmentation, limited visibility and underutilisation of citizen-generated evidence.

It provides a shared space for organisations, institutions and communities to connect, collaborate and transform citizen evidence into meaningful development action.
